Functional Tremor: Detailed Recovery Techniques
This folder expands the brief technique descriptions on the [functional tremor recovery page](../02-functional-tremor.md). Each page explains which appearance of tremor may fit the technique, the relevant anatomy in clinical and everyday language, how a clinician may select and progress it, how supporters can help, and where the evidence stops.
Original list: 8 entries
8 original entries became 9 pages because mirror feedback and surface-EMG feedback were separated. These are document counts, not counts of independently proven treatments. See the history audit.
- Tremor retrainment: Voluntary Tremor Retrainment for Functional Tremor.
- Competing rhythm: Competing Rhythm and Entrainment Practice for Functional Tremor.
- External-focus task practice: External Focus and Meaningful-Task Practice for Functional Tremor.
- Posture and movement-pattern adjustment: Posture, Alignment and Movement-Pattern Adjustment for Functional Tremor.
- Contract–release relaxation: Contract–Release and Muscle Relaxation for Functional Tremor.
- Mirror or EMG feedback: Mirror and Visual Feedback for Functional Tremor; Surface-EMG Biofeedback for Functional Tremor.
- Whole-person treatment: Individualized Whole-Person Treatment for Functional Tremor.
- Relapse plan: Relapse and Self-Management Planning for Functional Tremor.
These are components a qualified clinician can combine, adapt or omit. They are not a fixed sequence, a self-test or a requirement to suppress every tremor. A technique helping or not helping does not confirm or disprove FND. New, substantially changed or medically concerning tremor needs appropriate assessment.
Most movement examples in these pages concern limb tremor. Head, trunk and voice tremor require phenotype-specific assessment; voice symptoms may need speech-language therapy and laryngeal evaluation. A clinician should not transfer a limb exercise to another body region without adapting its goal and safety conditions.
